From Where I Sit

May Greetings!

Join us, along with the Administration on Aging for Older American's Month 2017. The theme, "Age Out Loud", is intended to give aging a new voice--one that reflects what today's older adults have to say about aging.

The 2017 theme gives us an opportunity to shine a light on many important issues and trends. More than ever before, older Americans are working longer, trying new things, and engaging in their communities. They're taking charge, striving for wellness, focusing on independence, and advocating for themselves and others. They expect to continue to live their lives to the fullest, and they're insisting on changes that make that possible. What it means to age has changed, and OAM 2017 is a perfect opportunity to recognize and celebrate what getting older looks like today.

The Colonial Club needs your voices to continue succeeding. Whether you're a volunteer board member or advisory council member you can have a direct impact on today's Colonial Club, but perhaps more importantly, the Colonial Club of tomorrow. If you aren't on one of those boards, but would like to share your thoughts, you can do so by reaching out to our board of directors or senior advisory council.

Both of these committees will be bringing on new members this month, so once that's done, we'll post those names in an upcoming newsletter as well as our website. That takes us to the 2017 annual meeting, which will be held on Thursday, May 25th at 5:30 p.m. in the Cremer Auditorium. Remember, this is also when we honor our volunteers for their outstanding services. So mark your calendar and join us!

Finally, don't forget our annual Mother's Day luncheon on Friday, May 12th. Our special guest this year is Vivian Probst, an award-winning Wisconsin author and nationally-known consultant on affordable housing. Her latest book, "I was a Yo-Yo Wife" is a memoir of her life, her two marriages and full of wisdom. She appeared at the Sun Prairie Public Library last month. Tickets are $12 or only $10 if you are a Club 301 member. Call and reserve your seat today!

All the best!
